Your Recreation Facilty!
The Sports Club

For over fifty years the Victoria Beach Sports club has been a place of community. Where children have grown up and adults have enjoyed each other's company. The numerous activities and events hosted by the club and its many volunteers has helped to kindle a sense of belonging to the many people in the area. The drawing area of the Sports Club is much larger than the Rural Municipality of Victoria Beach. The club draws in people from Albert Beach, Hillside Beach, Traverse Bay, Belair even as far as Grand Marais and Powerview-Pine Falls.

Membership

We have extremely reasonable membership fees for general use of the Sports Club. Individuals pay $10.00 and families are assessed $25.00. To cover specific costs, there can be additional registration fees for activities and events. For more information contact Lynn at 756-2575.

Location

There are two main facilities
  1. 5 Ash Avenue, at the junction of Pine Road. This is original site and is made up of the hall, curling rink, skating rink and canteen. Although it is in the restricted zone, special allowances are made for functions. On these occasions you can access from Ateah Road.
  2. Highway 59 by the Fire Hall. This area includes a baseball diamond, skate park, outdoor stage toboggan slide, canteen and beer gardens. The open space between the beer garden and the toboggan hill is the future home for the Community Centre.
The Club

Note: The Victoria Beach Club and Clubhouse on Pier road operate in July & August and are independent from the Victoria Beach Sports Club.

History :: A Legacy To Grow From PDF Print E-mail
At the heart of every community is a facility that serves as a gathering place - the building which individuals of all ages are drawn. The Alex Anderson Memorial Sports Club and Legion Hall, Inc., better known as the Victoria Beach Sports Club (VBSC), has been this gathering place for nearly sixty years. During that time, it has become the place to celebrate and share, both joys and sorrows. It has become an intimate part of the community.
  • Serving as the curling club, hockey rink, social hall and recreation centre for children;
  • Hosting socials, weddings, and helping people say goodbye to their loved ones;
  • Displaying the talents of local artists and rasing funds for a variety of benefits; and,
  • Seeing the generations of young people grow up and, ultimately take responsibilty for it's survival.
The sports club was built through the donations and efforts of a wide range of permanent and seasonal residents of the area. Starting in 1936 as a Legion Hall to honour area veterens, with growth to a sports club in 1946 that included a skating rink and a change shack, and the addition of a curling rink in the late 1950's, and finally the addition of the kitchen, canteen and lobby area in the early 1970'2. Increasingly, over the past number of years it has been patched together by the hard work and good will of a wide variety of volunteers.

However, it's lifespan is nearly over, and therefore a new facility has been planned. Construction of a new facility is a vision that the community has had for many years. The location by the sports field is ideal and the consolidation of the facilities makes good common sense.

Most importantly, the facility will continue to build on its history of being from, within and by the community - both seasonal and permanent members.
