Art Vincent was a summer resident of Victoria Beach from 1953 until his passing in 1998. He undertsood that credit for the establishment of this very unique community rested with the founders of the Victoria Beach Company.
The Original Shareholders of the Company bought the Victoria Beach property in 1912 and created what we know today as the "restricted" area. This included the streets, the cottage lots, the commercial area,, the tennis courts and the golf course.
About fifty years after the founding of the Victoria Beach Company, Art realized that the original shareholders had passed on and many of the succeding owners were probably unknown. Art was concerned that current owners who to his knowledge were notsummer residents at Victoria Beach might compromise the layout by choosing to develop housing around the golf course, on some areas of the village green or an any available Municipal property.
Art decided to locate every shareholder of the Victoria Beach Company to purchase personally all of the shares. It took great effort and several years, but he succeded and promised the Municipality that as the new sole owner he would never deviate from the founders orginal design.
To protect the area beyond his lifetime, Art approached the Victoria Beach Municipal Council in 1968 and suggested they take ownership of the Victoria Beach Company. The Council agreed and was asked to pay a nominal sum for the Company. As a result, every resident of the restricted area of Victoria Beach can rest assured that no changes will ever take place without their approval.
We salute Art Vincent for his vision and his dedication in ensuring the preservation of this special community.
