There are By-Laws in force to regulate the following activities: By-Law #1509 – Illegal Dumping – Clean brush from deadfall only can be put out on the road allowances between May 1st and June 15th AND between September 8th and October 20th only. PLEASE COMPOST LEAVES. Dumping of brush at any other time is illegal. This service is for the use of municipal property owners only. CONTRACTORS WILL BE CHARGED FOR DUMPING ON MUNICIPAL ROAD ALLOWANCES REGARDLESS OF THE TIME OF YEAR. By-Law #1511 – Off-Road Vehicles – ORVs cannot be driven on any municipal or provincial roads or beaches at any time. ORVs cannot be driven on municipal land from June 1st to Labour Day. ORVs are permitted on certain municipal lands at other times of the year (after Labour Day to May 31st). An ORV may be seized by Police under provisions of the By-Law. The Off Road Vehicles Act is a provincial statute and the provisions and restrictions (minimum age, safety equipment, speed limit, impoundment, etc…) contained within this Act apply whether or not the Municipality has passed a By-Law to further restrict ORV use. By-Law #1501 – Open Fires – Open fires on municipal land and beaches are illegal at all times. Fires on private land in approved fire pits may be allowed if a permit is issued by the Fire Chief or his designate. By-Law #1431 – Noise – Construction activity is permitted from 8:00am to 8:00 pm each day. Party noise, music, etc…must be kept to a reasonable level at all times. By-Law #1504 – Firearms & Fireworks – The discharge of firearms (including weapons such as bow & arrow, catapult, sling shot, etc…)is illegal. The use of fireworks is prohibited unless prior written permission has been obtained from the Municipality. By-Law #1486 – Wildlife Feeding/ Food Storage – Feeding wildlife is prohibited. Bird feeders are not to be put out from April 1st to October 31st each year. Food and bird feed are to be stored in a secure location. This By-Law was enacted to reduce the frequency of wildlife/human encounters, especially with respect to bears. By-Law #1505 – Derelict Vehicles – Derelict vehicles include salvage, inoperable vehicles, non-licenced vehicles, etc…A derelict vehicle may be impounded & charges including towing may be assessed against the property owner. OFFENDERS CHARGED UNDER ANY OF THE ABOVE BY-LAWS WILL BE PROSECUTED IN PROVINCIAL JUDGES COURT. MAXIMUM FINE - $1,000. OTHER BY-LAWS By-Law #1412 – Dog Control – Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Owners are required to pick-up after their pet. Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 10:00 am and 8:00 pm from June 1st to Labour Day. Maximum fine - $500 + applicable costs. By-Law #1346 / VB Planning Scheme – These By-Laws and amendments specify how private property may be developed with respect to Building, Plumbing & Electrical Codes and the location, type and size of structures, etc…Fines range from $500 to $1,000, excluding double permit fees. By-Law #1198 – Regulate Water Usage- Usage may be restricted at Council’s discretion. Maximum Fine - $500. |
